Brief description of Architectural Framework of e-commerce/ What are the policy and support area of e-commerce framework?/What are the six layers of functionality or services of architectural Framework of e-commerce

  Architectural Framework of e-commerce

An EC Framework: supports five policymaking support areas/ EC applications are supported by infrastructure and by five support areas:

2) Public policy

3) Marketing & Advertisement

4) Support services

5) Business partnerships

To execute these applications, companies need the right framework: information, infrastructure, and support services

People: Sellers, buyers, intermediaries, information systems specialists, and other employees, and any other participants.

Public policy: Legal and other policy and regulating issues, such as privacy protection and taxation.

Marketing and advertising: Like any other business, EC usually requires the support of marketing and advertising.

Support services: Many services are needed to support EC. They range from payments to order delivery and content creation.

Business partnerships: Joint ventures, e-marketplaces, and partnerships are some of the frequently occurring relationships in e-business

The architectural framework for e-commerce consists of six layers of functionality or services as follows:

  • Application services.

  • Brokerage services, data, or transaction management.

  •  Interface and support layers.

  • Secure messaging, security, and electronic document interchange.

  • Middleware and structured document interchange, and

  • Network infrastructure and the basic communication services.

Applications: In the application layer services of e-commerce, it is decided that what type of e-commerce application is going to be implemented. (B2B, B2C, C2C, B2G)

Information Brokerage and Management Layer: This layer is rapidly becoming necessary in dealing with the voluminous amounts of information on the networks. This layer works as an intermediary that provides service integration between customers and information providers, given some constraints such as low price, fast services, or profit maximization for a client.

Interface and Support Services: The third layer of the architectural framework is the interface layer. This layer provides an interface for e-commerce applications. Interactive catalogs and directory support services

Secure Messaging Layer: electronic messaging services like e-mail, enhanced fax, and EDI.

Middleware services: The enormous growth of networks, client-server technology and all other forms of communicating between/among unlike platforms is the reason for the invention of middleware services. The middleware services are used to integrate the diversified software programs and make them talk to one another.

Network Infrastructure: We know that the effective and efficient linkage between the customer and the supplier is a precondition for e-commerce

Suppose that a data warehouse for Big-University consists of the following four dimensions: student, course, semester, and instructor, and two measures count and avg_grade. When at the lowest conceptual level (e.g., for a given student, course, semester, and instructor combination), the avg_grade measure stores the actual course grade of the student. At higher conceptual levels, avg_grade stores the average grade for the given combination. a) Draw a snowflake schema diagram for the data warehouse. b) Starting with the base cuboid [student, course, semester, instructor], what specific OLAP operations (e.g., roll-up from semester to year) should one perform in order to list the average grade of CS courses for each BigUniversity student. c) If each dimension has five levels (including all), such as “student < major < status < university < all”, how many cuboids will this cube contain (including the base and apex cuboids)?

Suppose that a data warehouse consists of the four dimensions; date, spectator, location, and game, and the two measures, count and charge, where charge is the fee that a spectator pays when watching a game on a given date. Spectators may be students, adults, or seniors, with each category having its own charge rate. a) Draw a star schema diagram for the data b) Starting with the base cuboid [date; spectator; location; game], what specific OLAP operations should perform in order to list the total charge paid by student spectators at GM Place in 2004?
